Beau signs a tenancy agreement for a newly renovated basement suite in Vancouver. Later, Beau finds out that the landlord did not get a building permit from the city to renovate the suite, and it is not registered with the city. Since the suite does not follow the city bylaws, Beau’s tenancy is not covered under the Residential Tenancy Act.
